HURRICANE TEDDY. WATCH THE FULL MOVIE BELOW

Hurricane Teddy in New Hampshire September 22nd and 23rd, 2020. The storm that lived up to the hype.
Featuring all the local NH surfers and the traveling California crew, as well as the East Coast contingent.
They were all here. It was pretty significant. Music is by my dear friend Steve Cataldo and his band the
NERVOUS EATERS, and my own band The VINNY BAND. Some of these songs were written back in the 70's.
The Eaters and the Vinny's were always playing together. It's kind of cool that 40 something years later we're
doing sort of the same thing. The other two cool instrumental songs are by Ty Tabor.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy this video. Big Kudos to Martha Lardent for her additional awesome footage.
This was shot in 4K so adjust your devices accordingly.
Check out the Nervous Eaters on aceofheartsrecords.com and bandcamp.nervouseaters.com

THE TEDDY VIDEO. THE TERRIBLE DEBATE. TRUMP GETS COVID. CAM NEWTON GETS COVID. AND SURFER MAGAZINE FOLDS BECAUSE OF COVID. DAMN YOU COVID!

What the hell is this you ask? It's an Old VINNYTOONS poster I did back in the late 1970's. Why are you seeing this? Well, the bands NERVOUS EATERS and VINNY are the bands playing on the new Hurricane TEDDY video above. There's some history here. I've known Steve Cataldo for well over 40 years now. We go way back. Our bands played together many times over the years back in the RAT and CANTONES days.

And Steve and I were once roommates. We not only played together but worked and lived together. Steve produced some of my demos as well back during the heyday of Boston Rock and Roll.

This is a pic of Steve and I at a WERS LIVE Broadcast show in 1980.

And here's another historical photo. That's Richie Bartlett from the FOOLS, Steve Cataldo from NERVOUS EATERS, and me from the VINNY BAND. Ironically, Richie and I ended up being roommates after Steve moved out.
And here's something that not many people remember. I actually joined the FOOLS for a brief period of time when they were just getting off their tour with Van Halen. This is Rock and Roll history my friends.

And speaking of history Jeff Wilkinson (the drummer you hear playing in the HURRICANE TEDDY video) was the drummer for the NERVOUS EATERS and the FOOLS when I was playing in the band. Jeff passed away way too early in life and he is arguably known as one of the BEST Rock and Roll drummers in the history of Boston Rock.

And speaking of Boston Rock and Roll drummers. There's nobody with more R&R credentials than this man standing in the middle. David Robinson of the CARS and The MODERN LOVERS. David produced all of my (VINNY) singles and our LP "OLAS DE SEXO" And to add more irony, standing next to David is Rick Harte who has recorded more Boston Rock and Roll bands than anyone. Including the NERVOUS EATERS with his recent release HOT STEEL AND ACID. Watch the video and listen to the audio track. Both of these producers work will fill your ears with some great sounds and remind you all of their role in Boston Rock history.

Rick even recorded the VINNY BAND'S song "NO FUTURE" (which could still be a noteworthy release today considering the climate we all live in).

*The ACE OF HEARTS story along with the NERVOUS EATERS "Hot steel and Acid" CD can be purchased by clicking on the images down in the right hand column of the Blog.

And last but not least. The other connection to all of this Boston R&R History.

33 years ago this coming Saturday October 10th, 2020 Cory and I will be celebrating our 33rd Wedding Anniversary. My best man was my brother Johnny (who plays on the VINNY songs in the video) and Cory's Maid of Honor was none other than WBCN DJ Tami Heide. And...(what there's more?) Yes there's more. The photo up in the beginning of this column? The Black and White pic of Steve and I at the VINNY LIVE BROADCAST at WERS? Well...young Tami Heide was the DJ that night.

Now you know the REST OF THE STORY.

I LOVE you baby, HAPPY 33rd! It's been one hell of a ride so far. I can only imagine what the future will bring us. But I know we will be ready with whatever comes our way, as long as we're together. Here's to many more!

"HURRICANES, ROCK AND ROLL, SURFING, AND LOVE HEALS
ALL WOUNDS!"

This week's Ed's corner is Phil Carey (who gets some good waves in the TEDDY video). This was shot on September 28th, 2009. Phil's such a good guy and a great surfer.

Now for Some Local and National News

That presidential debate? Was anything but Presidential. What a complete embarrassment. For both sides. If you think your man did better than his opponent you need to watch it again. I'm convinced more than ever, that we are in a world of shit. They were both awful. Just awful. They both lied through their teeth. They both talked over one another, and they both said some incredibly rude remarks to one another. There were no winners that night. Only losers. And nobody lost more than the very fabric of America that night. God Help Us All.

One of these two lying sacks of shit will be our next president.

And just when you thought the "theater of the absurd" couldn't get any worse? 45 goes and tests positive for COVID. You know, you just can't make this shit up. Good Lord...

Here's 45 stepping off MARINE ONE as he walks off to an uncertain future at WALTER REED HOSPITAL. My belief is he will beat this like millions of others in the US already have. We might be more concerned if he was elderly, and overweight. Wait...Damn you COVID!

And speaking of COVID...Cam Newton of the Patriots tested positive for COVID. What the ever loving hell is going on? Has the world suddenly turned upside down on us? Damn again.

But this just might be the biggest loss to COVID for Surfers.

The following is an excerpt from surfertoday.com

Surfer Magazine announced the end of its regular print editions. It's the end of the surfing's golden era.

Todd Prodanovich, editor-in-chief of Surfer Magazine, revealed that issue number three of volume 61 will be the legendary publication's farewell issue.

"The whole staff got let go yesterday, but I feel like we're ending on a high note with this one," Prodanovich wrote on his Instagram page. Surfer Magazine was founded in 1960 by surfer-writer-teacher John Severson.

In February 2019, American Media announced the acquisition of Adventure Sports Network (ASN), the owner of Surfer Magazine. Nevertheless, the iconic surf publication changed ownership and management several times throughout its history.

However, declining sales and the introduction of a global pandemic in an already fragile industry put an end to the longest-running surf magazine.

ON A PERSONAL Note: This is part of my youth. SURFER was the Bible of Surfing for 60 years. I grew up reading it and anxiously waiting for each new issue. I think that of all the incredible losses due to the Pandemic, this one hurts the most. It's truly an end of an era. And not for nothing, but to end 60 years of SURFER with this issue? I think was a sad way to go out. They should have stuck with their original plan to do a recap on the last 60 years. Instead of getting caught up in this political wave. Yes that pun was intended.

Goodbye SURFER...we are going to miss you.

ESM (Eastern Surf Magazine) using a READY MAG format did the Best of Ralph's Pic. And while they couldn't possibly use everything thing I've ever done, they did manage to put up some 50 pics of mine, plus two videos. And I was truly humbled by their intro. Mez said some nice things about me. CLICK ON THE IMAGE ABOVE TO SEE THE WHOLE Spread.

KSM Photoshop of the Week
The debate last week was such a debacle the only thing that might have saved it would be to have Khaliddy replace Chris Wallace. Wallace had NO control of those two geezers. At least KSM would have made them shut up when they needed to shut up. I swear, the absurdity never stops.
And I am guilty of this absurdity. But admit it, this is what you like. The absurd.

And so my friends, please take advantage of this weekly photo shop of the mastermind who planned 9-11 and resulted in the deaths of 3,000 innocent civilians by KSM (Khalid Sheik Mohammed).

*Note to self -must pick up a case of HOW TO DEBATE FOR DUMMIES books at Home Depot this week.

A Wave a day for 365 consecutive days.

Yesterday- The ORIGINAL SURFER MAGAZINE 1960.
(Below) This is a bitter pill to swallow. The loss of SURFER Magazine. They held out the longest, but with the declining sales of print and the damn COVID Pandemic it was all they could do to keep afloat. 60 years is a long time. I started surfing in 1964 and Loved getting Surfer Magazine. My late mother used to send me SURFER when I was in Vietnam 69-70. It was still "the mag" for me even after all these years. I'm fortunate enough to have written a story in SURFER May 1989, Volume 30, Number 5. The story was titled COMFORTABLY NUMB. I wrote the story and Michael Baytoff took the photos. I'll never forget what it felt like to get a new issue of SURFER in the mail. LONG LIVE SURFER MAGAZINE! Photo by John Severson

This is the trailer to TEDDY. Or rather Hurricane TEDDY. We had four days of waves with two of them being significant. September 22nd and 23rd, 2020. Teddy was one of those Hurricanes that lived cup to the hype. It got big. It got hollow. And...it got crowded. Believe it or not, some surfers flew out from California to surf TEDDY. The Full feature Premiere showing will be shown on October 1st, 2020 at 7:00 PM. I'll be showing it on the Blog, the Vimeo page, and Facebook. That's 10-1-20 at 7:00PM EST. Music will be by NERVOUS EATERS, REDDY TEDDY, and The VINNY BAND. The song in the trailer is HOT STEEL and ACID by Nervous Eaters and can be purchased at aceofheartsrecords.com

Three Tropical Storms that gave New England some fun waves. September 6th, 14th, and 15th, 2020. It never got really big, but anytime the waves are head high and the water temps are in the 60's it's worth it. My son Max was celebrating his birthday on the 14th, so it's a little Max heavy. But seeing Kainalu Nichols surf at home again is worth the price of admission alone. Wait, what am I talking about it's free. The music is by Jack Shea check him out of Instagram @iamjackshea and QWILL at qwillmusic.com

TROPICAL STORM KYLE 5 Days Of Waves from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

From August 15th to August 19th, 2020 TS KYLE lit up the New Hampshire seacoast. The Boys and The Girls were there to meet Kyle every hour of every day. Suffice it to say, by Day 5 they were all gassed. But not before I shot the best of the best. It didn't really clean up until Day 4, but not having any real waves for so long, nobody was complaining. I managed to get in the water with my trusty HERO 5 GoPro and shoot for a couple of hours in just my trunks and rash guard. Yes it was that warm. I tried to shoot everyone who was out there. But try as I might, I always end up missing a few. I'm sorry if I missed you. The music is provided by my super talented nephew QWILL. You need to check his site out qwillmusic.com

Little Soft Top Or Christmas In July from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

July 1st and 2nd, 2020. The 157th anniversary of the battle of Gettysburg. The actual battle lasted 3 days. July 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. But here in Hampton, NH? It was all about surfing at the Wall. Dougie "Fresh" Wright was in town and as always, he times his visits with a fun summer swell. The surfing is all by the local crew. The music is three songs from The VINNY Band LP "OLAS DE SEXO" recorded in 1983 and produced by our dear friend David Robinson. The music isn't exactly contemporary but it works well enough for Surfing. Look for the near decapitation of Cam MacLeod. Crazy. I shot this in 4K so adjust your machines accordingly. Watch at a minimum of 1080

The BOYS & GIRLS Of Summer 6-5-20
from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

OK so I shot this all on June 5th, 2020. I started shooting at 8:00AM. There was only ONE person out at this secret spot called The WALL. Think about that. We all just spent two months in a Lockdown when the Governor opened the Beaches on June 1st, 2020. You would think that the first sign of a freaking ripple that people would be all over a waist to chest high glassy morning. But only a handful got it in the morning. People did finally wake up and by midday it was back to the normal crowd scene. It was just the best was from 7-9AM. Look, I'm not telling you this to make you feel bad (okay maybe a little) but you gotta wake up and check the cams people. It's summer! The flat spells are upon us. Anyway, I used The Ataris playing one of my favorite songs ever. Check it out. Live and learn. SURF FREE OR DIE!

OPENING DAY June 1st, 2020 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

Finally, the Governor of New Hampshire opened our Beaches and allowed our people the FREEDOM to Surf. Albeit, there wasn't much in the way of Surf, but that didn't stop the Boys and Girls from paddling out at the Wall on North Beach in Hampton, NH. Nobody spread the COVID-19 Virus around, that I could see. It's funny because while we (surfers) were all practicing Social Distancing the Protesters and Rioters were NOT. It's almost as if The Coronavirus disappeared overnight. My friends we are living in strange times. As in very strange times. The music by TL fits perfectly. The BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN!

COVERT-19 TS ARTHUR from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo. Another from the COVERT-19 series. This might end up being the last of its kind because on June 1st, 2020 the beaches of New Hampshire will finally be open. The last in the nation to open the beaches. Thank God. This edit is all from Tropical Storm Arthur. This was shot in 4 K so adjust your device accordingly. The music is by the super talented Ty Tabor. Buy his music at amazon.com

MAY DAY from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

The 7th video in the COVERT-19 Series. This one's called May Day. Just three surfers Kody Grondin, Max Fatello, and Kenny Linseman all practicing "Social Distancing" while hordes of people crowd the local beach Restaurants and nobody says anything. I don't get it. That's BS in my eyes. Practice Common Sense Not Nonsense. As long as there's surf, I'm going to document it. Music is by The Jelly Jam you can buy their music at amazon.com. Watch in 4K if you have it, otherwise watch in 1080.

MR MAN from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

Another from the COVERT-19 series. This one's called MR MAN. It's all from the 27th and 28th of April 2020. It's all in black and white. The featured surfers are: Jesse Gould, Kody Grondin, Max Fatello, Matt Colby, Ryan Jackson, and Brett and Kai Zola. Music is by The Jelly Jam by their music at Amazon.com

NOBODY'S BUSINESS from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

From the COVERT-19 series. This one's called NOBODY'S BUSINESS. Shot in New England on Sunday April 19th, 2020. Surfers: Kody Grondin, Max Fatello, Nick "Pev" Peverada, Lars Hamilton, Brian Taber, and Nate Gillman. ralphspic.com Music by Ty Tabor

COVERT -19 Series GHOST TOWN from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

With the LOCKDOWN in full affect the local surfers have to get creative to find waves. No PARKING means just that. There's NO PARKING at any of the NH beaches. So what does that mean? Well, you can walk, ride a bike, or skateboard to the ocean. The Atlantic Ocean is a big body of water. As long as you avoid the beaches and leave your vehicle at home, the will to survive and surf is strong in New England. The Surfers who appear in the video broke no laws. They just went surfing and practiced Social Distancing. The music is by Jelly Jam. Amazingly talented musicians. Praying for those who are sick, and praying for all the businesses to hang in there. Things will get better. I hope they Kill The Virus soon. Meanwhile, "Surfing Heals All Wounds."

LOCKDOWN from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

Will this be the last surf Video I make in the next couple of months? March 27th, 2020. Was the Last Day before the LOCKDOWN. The COVID-19 Plague has taken the country by storm. Thank God we had this last ocean storm before the Beaches and parking lots were shut down. I should have called this edit The Day The Earth stood Still.

Couple of points of interest for you all. For starters, March 27th was my late father's birthday, as well as my late uncle's birthday, and it's also my youngest daughter's birthday. Today is April 2nd. It's also the Birthday of my two dear friends. David Robinson (The CARS) and Don Rose (Eat records). Why mention them? Well I used four songs off the LP OLAS DESEXO by the VINNY BAND. I wrote all of the songs on the LP. And David produced the record, and Don was record company president who signed our band back in 1979.

One of the songs you'll hear, "I NEVER SAW YOU" was number one on WBCN in Boston for four consecutive weeks. It featured Elliot Easton (The CARS) on lead guitar. And my good friend and fellow photographer Tony Berardini was the GM of WBCN at that time. The last song is called "HERE'S WHERE I GET OFF" and it is my personal favorite song I've ever written. And I've written hundreds of songs. Anyway, you got nothing to do these days except watch TV and fool around on Social Media. So watch and listen my friends. Watch and listen.
Happy Birthday David and Don!

I filmed this in 4K so adjust your machines accordingly.
